What Would You Do With It? Wednesday - Kleenex Boxes

It is still Wednesday.... which means, I'm still on time!!!!

This week's featured item = Kleenex Boxes/Tissue Boxes

I don't have any great ideas that I have used personally for this one, but I sure have a lot of boxes hanging around.... So, I've been scouring the web looking for some great ideas. Here are a few that I found:

Aren't these cars adorable! I found this idea over at Simple As That. I know I have quite a few little ones who will absolutely love this project!

If you are going to make some cars, then you might as well continue the projects with this great traffic light that I found over at Parents Connect

I love this toy phone made from a couple of boxes! I know my little ones are constantly pretending to call people! I found this over at firstpalette.

Last week, there was a great link up for using baby food jars/containers. There were some GREAT entries over there. After some suggestions from Michelle over at This and that about kids.... I have opened all of the linkys for at least a year. So please take some time and visit the older posts if you have great ideas to share! I have also added a feedburner account. (I'm still new to some of this, and if it needs tweaking, please let me know!!!)

My friend died

I learned a hell of a lot from Dan Hodgins. He was mentor, a friend, and a "bone shaker" for many of us in the field of Early Childhood Education. He was and will always be a champion for children, and protector of childhood. I have so many great memories of time spent with him, it just doesn't seem like we had enough time. Dan died this past Saturday. Interestingly enough, Dan and I talked about death quite a bit. It is one of those topics that isn't talked about all that much in our field, but is super important. All living things eat, all living things poop, and all living things die. Dan and I recorded a podcast for awhile called "Shaking Bones." Dan was always shaking bones, even before I met him. A Few Ideas With Marker Caps (As Promised)

Yesterday, I hope I convinced you not to throw away your markers that "don't work." Today, I will share with you a few ideas for what to do with all of the caps. The possibilities are nearly endless, but here are a few of our recent creations: 1) A Leprechaun/Fairy Ladder/Rope Ladder: 2) #1 if not permanently secured can also double as a rope bridge: 3) #1/#2 can also be made into a train track for your homemade trains :). I don't have pictures of this, but we used to play a sight word game, and one of the cards said "achoo." then you had to sneeze and put your cards back in the box if you got that. My students LOVED that game.

I also don't have a photo but we painted them deep blue with yellow stars and stuffed them with chiffon scarves for the babies to pull out.
