Upcycled Crib and Finally Finished Painted Tires!

Look what I did this afternoon...... I was inspired by A Little Learning for Two to upcycle one of the cribs from my friend into a chalkboard desk. I didn't take a lot of photos along the way, but you can click here for tutorial I was inspired by. I tweaked the design to add a shelf on the bottom for extra supplies. The paint is drying and I have a house warming party to get to.... So the rest of the accessories will have to wait for now.

I finally finished painting the final tower for my outdoor tire planters! Life has been busy and some of my "projects" have been on the back burner for quite some time. See the top one on the left.... That was the final tire! Please ignore all of the weeds growing through the rocks. (another thing on the list that I just haven't tackled yet!) Check out the sunflowers that the birds planted! How cool is that!

Well, off to enjoy the rest of my weekend. Chances are it is one the of last really nice ones we will have before we start to talk about that white fluffy stuff again!!

The tires look amazing! I love it! Our own tires have been primed and painted grey, but we haven't gotten around to painting them any bright colors yet. *sigh* I can't wait to see what you do with the crib! It looks awesome so far!

WOW that chalkboard desk is a terrific idea Amy and the tyres look great too ... Weeds you say??? I don't see any weeds!

My friend died

I learned a hell of a lot from Dan Hodgins. He was mentor, a friend, and a "bone shaker" for many of us in the field of Early Childhood Education. He was and will always be a champion for children, and protector of childhood. I have so many great memories of time spent with him, it just doesn't seem like we had enough time. Dan died this past Saturday. Interestingly enough, Dan and I talked about death quite a bit. It is one of those topics that isn't talked about all that much in our field, but is super important. A Few Ideas With Marker Caps (As Promised)

Yesterday, I hope I convinced you not to throw away your markers that "don't work." Today, I will share with you a few ideas for what to do with all of the caps. The possibilities are nearly endless, but here are a few of our recent creations: 1) A Leprechaun/Fairy Ladder/Rope Ladder: 2) #1 if not permanently secured can also double as a rope bridge: 3) #1/#2 can also be made into a train track for your homemade trains :).
